“If I Lay Here”

Decided to bite the bullet and push through with the comic after all. It took the better part of the day (and night), and I got zero work done today, but it was worth it. I’ve been replaying ME3 after work— no rush, just bit by bit— and I’ve gotten to the big goodbye in London. It’s ironic that, even after my first playthrough AND having watched the cut scenes over and over again, I still ended up sobbing at that part. I was so temped to put a happy ending in the comic, but until I see what the ending DLC is like, this is going to have to serve as my extended cut of the canon ending. ;_;
well, this is a one-two punch to the heart and stomach. i’m the same way with the ending and i think it still feels so raw because there are still so many questions and no certainties—which is what kaidan must struggle with so damn hard, having seen shepard die and come back once already. you don’t get over loss like that but more importantly, you don’t get over hope like that. and those dog tags… it’s the little things, simple and small, that seem so big. only seeing kaidan’s shoulders at the end, that view of a razed city and a man just as bombed-out but still holding up against loss and grief and finally, acceptance, saying his goodbyes to the sky… i guess i’ll be sinking into heartache for the rest of the day. this is lovely, so lovely, but so painful. ouch.

these two shots are such perfect juxtaposition—how his posture and his body language echo the sadness in his face above, and how despite the way his shoulders are curved, his head doesn’t stay bowed. he has that moment, that grief; it’s real. he knows the score. and he feels it; he’s not one of those guys who doesn’t feel it or doesn’t let himself feel it. he has to feel it. maybe he even wants to feel it, or needs to. but when he takes those rough breaths, he lifts his head. sadness, longing, understanding—no regrets, and a whole lot of strength. integrity. he’ll hold his end of the line, come whatever may. of course, it breaks my heart, but i love the story these two moments tell together: the determination of a man in love, what he’s capable of fighting for because of and despite the love he’s fighting with.
Awesome Claire Redfield tribute! Reminds me how amazing she is and how she’s been shafted this generation (video game wise). RE6…fingers, toes, and eyes crossed.
I remember first watching this video. It’s the perfect song for Claire too.
